LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team is riding the momentum of an impressive season opener as it heads into its first road competition of the season. The Wildcats will travel to Iowa on Friday, Jan. 24 for a match at 1 p.m., before returning to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 12 p.m., to host Purdue.

Kentucky opened the 2025 season with two dominant victories in a doubleheader last weekend, defeating East Tennessee State and Murray State by identical 6-1 scores. The Wildcats showcased their depth and determination, extending their streak of season-opening wins to 10 straight years.

Zoe Hammond emerged as a standout in both singles and doubles action last weekend. Partnering with senior Ellie Eades, she helped secure two critical doubles victories. In singles play, Hammond fought through a tough three-set match on court one against ETSU’s Daniela Rivera, delivering a gritty and decisive win. Lizzy Stevens also demonstrated consistency across both matches, earning two singles victories and teaming with Julia Zhu for commanding doubles wins. Zhu delivered an exceptional performance, highlighted by a flawless 6-0, 6-0 singles victory against Murray State.

The Wildcats face a challenging road test against Iowa on Friday. The Hawkeyes are known for their competitive play and will put Kentucky’s strong doubles pairings and steady singles lineup to the test. On Sunday, Kentucky returns to its home court to take on Purdue in what promises to be another intense matchup. With the support of the home crowd, the Wildcats aim to maintain their unbeaten streak at the Boone Tennis Complex.

A key factor in the Wildcats’ success this weekend will be their ability to maintain their dominance in doubles play, which has provided early momentum in both matches so far. Consistency in singles play, led by Hammond, Stevens, and Zhu, will also be crucial as Kentucky looks to build on its strong start to the season.
