Less than three weeks remain before the Paris Olympics, and official women’s basketball rosters are being revealed for the elite 12-nation tournament.
China, Puerto Rico, and Serbia have yet to announce their players, while Nigeria and Germany are still finalizing their lineups for the Summer Games.
Canada, Australia, Spain, and Belgium have recently unveiled their 12-player squads, joining previously announced rosters from Tokyo medalists Team USA (gold), Japan (silver), and France (bronze).
Among the 9 finalized and provisional teams, 27 players representing five countries currently play in the WNBA, with an additional 10 competing in the NCAA.
International Olympic basketball teams to watch
Australia’s Olympic basketball lineup features seven WNBA players, the most outside of Team USA.
Led by NY Liberty coach Sandy Brondello, the Opals include four rookies and three-time WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson, who will be competing in her fifth Olympic Games at 43 years old after a 12-year absence from Olympic competition.
Canada’s roster includes four WNBA standouts and former Fever and Lynx center Natalie Achonwa, making her the first four-time Olympic women’s basketball player for Canada.
Stiff Olympic competition for Team USA
Team USA faces tough competition from Japan, Germany, and Belgium in Group C, with Belgium being a serious podium contender behind WNBA champion Emma Meesseman.
France is also a strong contender outside of Group C, with former WNBA player Gabby Williams leading the way for Les Bleues.
