2025 All-Star Weekend hosted by the Indiana Fever was truly one of the best events in recent years for the WNBA. Stud Budz had a nonstop stream and danced with Cathy Engelbert in front of thousands of people. Sabrina Ionescu won her second three-point shooting contest, and Natasha Cloud took home the skills competition hardware. Team Collier won the All-Star game: Phee recorded the most points in an All-Star game, while Skylar Diggins broke the assists record and made history with the first All-Star triple double. It was officially an unforgettable weekend to cap off the first half of the WNBA season.

With that, we look ahead toward the second half of the season by putting together our fifth volume of the Winsidr Power Rankings. As a reminder, the rankings below are an aggregate of the Winsidr team. We poll our team to vote regularly throughout the regular season on where each team stands. We display each team with its current record and its record since the last edition of our power rankings.

Enjoy!

13. Connecticut Sun (3-19) — 1-3 since PR Vol. 4

The Sun lost three straight games to end the first half of the season, but they did knock off the Seattle Storm on July 9, making their first victory since June 6. Progress isn’t linear … right?

12. Chicago Sky (7-15) — 2-3

Since our last power rankings, the Sky were handed back-to-back double-digit losses heading into the break—including a 37-point loss to the Atlanta Dream—but they also had a big upset, knocking off the Minnesota Lynx on July 12. Chicago has to face Minnesota and then Seattle for its first two games back from the break. It won’t exactly be a walk in the park for Angel Reese and company to round out the campaign.

11. Los Angeles Sparks (8-14) — 2-1

The Sparks are on a two-game winning streak—we are being very generous with the term “streak” here—and get to face the Mystics and Sun again coming out of the break. All eyes are still on Cameron Brink and when she will be able to return to action for Los Angeles. In the mean time, Azura Stevens has been making her presence known for the Sparks. She is having the best season of her career across the board, averaging a career high in 14.7 points per game (PPG) and 8.7 rebounds per game (RPG), and even in field-goal percentage at 50.4 and perimeter shots at 40.6 percent.

10. Dallas Wings (6-17) — 0-4

Things were looking up for the Wings, but they ended the first half of the season riding a four-game losing streak. Paige Bueckers and company will have their hands full moving forward, as they have to face the Storm, Valkyries, Liberty, Dream, and Fever over the next two weeks. Still, Bueckers has been a bright spot for the Wings despite their failing season. She led all guards in scoring during the month of July averaging 20.3 PPG, while shooting 45.3 percent from the field. However, how the team fares in future power rankings does not look as hopeful as Paige’s play.

9. Washington Mystics (11-11) — 3-1

The Mystics have won three of their last four games behind the play of All-Stars Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, and Brittney Sykes. Getting their lick back against the Sparks, who they lost to by 19 points before the break, is crucial for a Washington team that is looking to make a playoff push. Expect to see a burst from Shakira Austin who has also been impactful on and off the bench—she’s logged double digits in their last four of five games. The Mystics are tied with the Aces in the standings but own the head-to-head matchup 2-1 so far.

8. Las Vegas Aces (11-11) — 2-2

A’ja Wilson reminded us that she’s the reigning MVP in her final two games before the break, logging 71 points on 27-of-41 shooting. Things have not gone the way that Las Vegas planned, but with time to reset the team will look to integrate NaLyssa Smith into the fold more and finally get Jewell Loyd going too. Key games against Atlanta and Minnesota await them out of the break.

7. Golden State Valkyries (10-12) — 1-4

Close, but not close enough. That’s been the story of the Valkyries’ last two weeks. Golden State limped into the break with a two-point loss to Las Vegas, a one-point loss to Phoenix, and a nine-point loss to Seattle. The good news for Golden State is that the only team that is over .500 on its schedule until August 19 (!) is Atlanta.

6. Indiana Fever (12-11) — 3-2

When will Caitlin Clark return to the floor? She aggravated a groin injury in the Fever’s final game before the break, which is brutal for them. Theyr are 8-5 with Clark this year, and 4-6 without her. Indiana will have a big challenge ahead of them against facing New York first—a team that defeated the Clark-less Fever by 21 points on July 16.

See Also

5. Atlanta Dream (12-11) — 1-4

The Dream will be without All-Star Rhyne Howard for the rest of July, as she recovers from a knee injury. That means that for at least the next five games, the Dream and first-year coach Karl Smesko will be relying on Allisha Gray, Brionna Jones, and others to keep his team afloat. Atlanta has been inconsistent this year, and with the Mercury and the Lynx on their schedule out of the break to wrap up a six-game road trip, the Dream needs consistency without Howard as they jockey for playoff positioning.

4. Seattle Storm (14-9) — 2-2

Seattle is a team that has beaten the best teams in the league (Minnesota, Phoenix, New York, Atlanta) and also lost to teams that they should beat on paper (Connecticut, Golden State, Las Vegas). The Storm has a chance to position themselves among the elite teams in the league with games against the Wings, Sky, Mystics, Sun, and Sparks awaiting them over the next two weeks. Which Seattle team will show up to the party?

3. Phoenix Mercury (15-7) — 3-1

Alyssa Thomas continues to be the engine that makes the Mercury go, along with fellow All-Star Satou Sabally, who is set to return to the lineup as soon as July 23. Phoenix currently has multiple injured players aside from Sabally (right ankle), including Lexi Held (pneumothorax), Kahleah Copper (hamstring), and Monique Akoa Makani who’s in concussion protocol. The Mercury are still working DeWanna Bonner into the offense, and they’ll be tested early with games against Atlanta and New York right out of the gate. Seeing how they’ve managed with injuries throughout the season, they shouldn’t waver too far off in our next power rankings.

2. New York Liberty (15-6) — 3-0

The Liberty entered the break winning four of their last five games, and Finals MVP Jonquel Jones is expected to be ready to make her return against Indiana on Tuesday. We’ll get to see New York fully healthy once again, which as we saw at the beginning of the season makes them one of the most—if not the most—formidable teams in the league. To make matters even better, the Liberty have announced the signings of Stephanie Talbot and Emma Meesseman. Though the team will likely have to make one more cut, New York is stationed to go on an incredible run to round out the season.

1. Minnesota Lynx (20-4) — 3-2

The All-Star Game was in Indiana, but it was Minnesota that owned the weekend. Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman brought the entertainment, while Collier brought home the W and MVP trophy. The weekend was a microcosm of the WNBA season so far: it’s Minnesota’s world, and we’re just living in it. We’ve been waiting all year for Minnesota and New York to square off in a rematch of the WNBA Finals, and we’ll finally get a chance to relive it on July 30 in Minnesota. Get your popcorn ready.
