CONCORD, Calif. — Sabrina Ionescu used to dislike being called “The Franchise” by her former high school coach Kelly Sopak.
Despite her aversion to extra attention, Ionescu’s accomplishments since leaving Miramonte High School in Orinda have solidified her as a true franchise player known for her humility, hard work, and commitment to giving back.
Now, in its fourth year, the Sabrina Ionescu Showcase hosted by Sopak and Carondelet High School has expanded from a modest one-day event to a two-day, 24-game showcase taking place at two venues in Concord, Calif.
With Ionescu’s impressive high school career leading Miramonte to a record of 119-9, she has gone on to achieve even greater success, most recently winning a WNBA championship with the New York Liberty on Oct. 21.
Her success has continued to grow, including the rapid expansion of her Showcase event.
According to Sopak, the response to the Showcase has been incredible, with many teams eager to participate.
Featuring top teams from the Bay Area, the state, and the nation, the Showcase promises exciting matchups and standout talent.
Highlighted by a highly anticipated game between Ontario Christian and Mitty, the Showcase is set to impress fans and scouts alike.
Ontario Christian, led by standout players like Kaleena Smith, Sydney Douglas, and Tati Griffin, will have a chance at redemption in a highly anticipated matchup against Mitty.
The Showcase will also feature other exciting games, showcasing top teams and elite talent throughout the weekend.
Carondelet, coming off a strong showing at the Nike TOC, is ready to take on top competition in a challenging weekend of basketball.
In addition to the games, Ionescu will host a free camp for youth players as part of her commitment to giving back to the community and the sport she loves.
Sopak emphasized that Ionescu’s involvement in the Showcase goes beyond just lending her name to the event; she genuinely cares about giving her time and energy to support the sport and the community.
