WNBA: Collier, Reeve headline Lynx regular-season award candidates
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

With just four games left in the 2024 WNBA regular season, the Minnesota Lynx (27-9) are holding onto second place and have a chance to secure a top-two finish soon. Their sights are set on the postseason, where they will aim for their first WNBA championship since 2017.

As the regular season wraps up, the voting for the 2024 WNBA awards, such as Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year, is about to begin. With the Lynx being one of the top teams in the league, they have multiple candidates in consideration for these awards. Let’s take a look at which Lynx players could be recognized for their exceptional performances this season.

Napheesa Collier

Napheesa Collier is a strong contender for various awards this season. Her impressive stats place her among the top players in the WNBA, excelling in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Despite facing tough competition, Collier’s all-around performance makes her a likely candidate for All-WNBA First Team honors.

While A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces is having a remarkable season, Collier’s defensive prowess and efficiency in scoring make her a strong contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award. Her contribution to Minnesota’s strong defense throughout the season further solidifies her case for this recognition.

Cheryl Reeve

With the Lynx performing exceptionally well this season, Coach Cheryl Reeve is in contention for Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. Her leadership has been instrumental in the team’s success, exceeding preseason expectations and standing out among the top WNBA teams.

The Lynx’s exceptional performance on both ends of the court reflects Reeve’s coaching expertise. Their unselfish play, solid defense, and victories against top teams highlight Reeve’s impact and make her a strong contender for the Coach of the Year award.

Despite preseason underestimations, the Lynx’s success under Reeve’s guidance positions her as a frontrunner for the Coach of the Year title. Comparing her achievements with other top coaches in the league, Reeve’s leadership stands out and makes her a strong candidate for the award.

Alanna Smith

Contribution from multiple players contributes to a team’s defensive success, and Alanna Smith’s defensive prowess has been a key factor in the Lynx’s strong defensive performance. Her shot-blocking abilities and overall defensive stats position her as a potential candidate for the All-Defense Team.

With impressive defensive numbers and significant contributions to Minnesota’s defensive success, Smith’s inclusion in the All-Defense Team seems likely. Her defensive impact, combined with solid offensive performance, could also earn her consideration for All-WNBA honors, showcasing her versatility on the court.

Overall, Smith’s defensive prowess and offensive contributions make her a valuable asset to the Lynx, and her potential recognition on both the All-Defense Team and potentially All-WNBA highlights her impact on the team’s success this season.
