On Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury, the Chicago Sky showcased their ability to shoot from beyond the arc.
Despite a 93-88 loss, the Sky stayed competitive thanks to their strong shooting performance. With Kamilla Cardoso limited due to injury, Chicago heavily relied on their perimeter players, shooting 56 percent from 3-point range compared to the Mercury’s 37.5 percent.
The impressive shooting wasn’t just from one player, but from a collective effort.
Chennedy Carter, Michaela Onywenwere, Rachel Banham, Dana Evans, and Lindsay Allen all made significant contributions to the team’s scoring.
Additionally, the Sky focused on limiting turnovers, finding open shots, and moving well without the ball. After the game, Onyenwere highlighted the team’s emphasis on ball security.
Despite the playoff race, Chicago remains in contention for the eighth spot alongside the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics, all with a 13-25 record.
Looking ahead, Coach Teresa Weatherspoon is optimistic about building on the positives from the game and maintaining a team-oriented playing style.
The Chicago Sky will face the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
