The 2025 WNBA season is less than a month away, with training camps set to tip off in the final week of April. Excitement is already building, especially after Monday’s draft, where this year’s rookies officially found their new homes.
For the Washington Mystics, they added five new faces to their roster: Notre Dame SG Sonia Citron, USC PF Kiki Iriafen, Kentucky PG Georgia Amoore, Iowa SG Lucy Olsen and Alabama PG Zaay Green.

The expectations for the Mystics this coming season are quite low. After going just 14-26 last year, they have the third-worst odds (+7500) to win the 2025 WNBA title, according to ESPN BET. Washington is a very young team, with just four of the 13 players on the roster above the age of 25.

On Friday, Mystics general manager Jamila Wideman appeared on the podcast, “No Offseason: The Athletic Women’s Basketball Show.” While on the show, she admitted that the Mystics know they won’t contend for a championship in the coming season.
“I think what we’re excited about is to build,” Wideman said. “I think we have some really great talent on our team. I think we’re really conscious that we’re probably not going to contend for a championship next year. But what we are going to do is put a game on the court that I think is really, really dynamic and fun. And we’re going to be really, really competitive. I think if you come to watch us play, you’re going to see the seeds of something that is really fun to be a part of.”

The Mystics last reached the WNBA playoffs in 2023, but their run was short-lived with a first-round exit. In fact, each of their three postseason appearances since winning the championship in 2019 have ended in the opening round.
Washington will open the regular season on May 16 at home against the Atlanta Dream. Tip-off for that one is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
