Caitlin Clark was a whirlwind of stardom in the WNBA. The Indiana Fever point guard grabbed attention and headlines throughout the season.
However, WNBA icon Maya Moore has outlined a fresh set of challenges Clark will have to face and overcome in the 2025 season.
Maya Moore Points Out Challenges Awaiting Caitlin Clark in Year 2
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has the basketball world eager to see how she develops in her second season. Four-time WNBA champion Maya Moore appeared on ESPN and broke down the next steps in Clark’s career.
“You know, next steps, gosh, in this generation, right? It’s — you have, I think, just so many more challenges of how to handle yourself as an adult,” Moore said.

“The next step is how to become an even better leader… continuing to have fun, continuing to anticipate how people are going to try to stop her and being prepared.”

Moore added that the transition from college to the WNBA is already a major challenge for any player, but Clark will face even more pressure. She emphasized that Clark will need to take on a leadership role in her second season.
“So much of leadership is listening and learning, and hopefully, the more she can get connected to vets in the league and just different people and coaches and anyone that she can glean wisdom from of how to just continue to learn,” Moore said.
“How to be as a connected and inspiring leader as she can be, and a lot of that is walking the walk and not just talking the talk.”
The six-time WNBA All-Star highlighted that the 23-year-old is already on her way to becoming a leader but must keep her focus on those aspects to become a great one.
WNBA Analyst Wants Clark Focused On the Ball This Season
While Clark outperformed her rivals on the court, much of her rookie season was overshadowed by off-court discussions. WNBA analyst Ros Gold-Onwude expressed on her podcast “Good Follow” that she hopes Clark’s second season won’t be like her first one.
“I hope that the conversation and the focus moves away from everything that isn’t ball,” Rose said. “There was so much conversation about ‘gratitude for Caitlin,’ or race. I feel like this season, we’ll have the opportunity to see her physically stronger. Mentally rested. Better improved.”
While the season is still months away from tipping off, it’s clear that Clark will once again be the center of attention. Fever fans are hoping that attention translates into a championship run rather than another first-round exit.
