WNBA Legend Makes Exciting Kate Martin Move on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

After starting the 2025 WNBA season 2-1, Kate Martin and the Golden State Valkyries have dropped three straight, falling to 2-4.

Martin spent her rookie season (2024) with the Las Vegas Aces, earning a significant role early on with numerous injuries. But she joined the Valkyries for their inaugural season after getting selected in the expansion draft.

Martin struggled in her first three games with Golden State, totaling just eight points. However, in the two games leading up to Thursday’s matchup against the Phoenix Mercury, she showed improvement, averaging 12.0 points and recording a career-high 14 in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

The 2024 second-round pick remains a fan favorite even with her new team, which could have come from her time at Iowa alongside Caitlin Clark. Now, she will get an opportunity to chat with a WNBA legend.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Martin will be the next guest on former Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird’s podcast, “Bird’s Eye View.” Martin joins numerous WNBA stars from around the league who have appeared on the show, which debuted in May, including New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and Las Vegas Aces guard Jewell Loyd

“Bird’s Eye View” revealed the exciting news on its official Instagram account.

“One year in the league and ready to drop some wisdom with us 👀. Our guest this week is a fan favorite with the @valkyries & celebrating a birthday today… @katemartin 😆🎉 🎧Episode goes live tomorrow on Sue’s YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts”

Bird is widely considered one of the all-time greats in the WNBA. Spending 21 seasons with the Storm, Bird led her team to four WNBA championships and made eight All-WNBA teams. However, she was never able to secure an MVP award despite a Hall of Fame-worthy career.

Bird and Martin’s episode will premiere on Friday, marking the fourth episode of the show.
