WNBA Legend Refuses To Apologize For Calling Angel Reese ‘C-Tier’ Player originally appeared on The Spun.
Angel Reese is already a two-time WNBA All-Star, but she apparently has a long way to go in order to be considered an “A-tier” player.

Earlier this month, three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker was asked to do a “tier ranking” for some of the biggest names in women’s basketball. She started off things by placing A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart in the “S” tier. The second tier (A) included All-Star guards Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Plum and Sabrina Ionescu.
Interestingly enough, Parker didn’t place Reese in the “B” tier. She gave that honor to Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers.

Parker rounded out her list by placing Reese in the “C” tier alongside Cameron Brink.Â
“I put her right at that C level,” Parker said. “I think in terms of being above, you have to be able to have the ability to carry a team and be a 1 or 2 option. I think Angel Reese is fantastic at her role, which is offensive rebounding.”

During an appearance on the “Good Follow” podcast, Parker was asked about the criticism she received for placing Reese in the “C” tier.

Parker made it clear that she stands by her decision.
“They asked me my opinion on player tiers, and my thing is, if you bring something to the argument, bring something else,” Parker said. “Can she get to player A, or player S, or whatever? Yes, she can. Right now, I don’t know if she’s alongside those players. And you’re measuring her against players that have been in the league for years.”
It’s tough to argue against Parker, who was a seven-time All-Star and two-time MVP during her WNBA career.

Besides, placing Reese in a “C” tier isn’t exactly insult. She’s still ranked ahead of most players in the league.
Reese will be back on the court Thursday night against the Seattle Storm. We’ll see if she can extend her double-double streak to 11 straight games.
