WNBA Legend Rips League’s Refs For Caitlin Clark Treatment originally appeared on The Spun.

How Caitlin Clark is officiated has been a topic of conversation since her first day in the WNBA. And when it comes to the calls she gets (or lack thereof), one of the game’s legends has a big problem with it.

During Sunday’s broadcast of Fever-Wings, Hall of Fame center and ESPN analyst Rebecca Lobo broke down every foul she felt Dallas defenders were able to get away with in Indiana’s 102-83 win. Arguing that the reigning Rookie of the Year gets an unfavorable whistle from the refs:

“There’s a grab. There’s a hold. There’s another grab. I mean—” Lobo said before partner Ryan Ruocco jumped in.

“All of those are fouls,” he admitted.

“All of those are fouls!” the UConn great exclaimed. “Every single one of them. And here, that’s a foul. That’s a foul. And finally they call [the shooting foul].”

Obviously anything involving Caitlin Clark is going to get an extra spotlight shown on it. But you can definitely make an argument that last year’s No. 1 pick doesn’t get the superstar calls we’ve become accustomed to in the NBA.

Some would say that’s not a bad thing, and that physical play should be embraced. While her most fervent supporters point out that the league needs to do more to protect its most important asset.

As usual it should probably fall somewhere in the middle. But these discussions are going to continue to persist until the WNBA’s referees figure it out.
