WNBA: Lynx exemplified selflessness, toughness throughout 2024 run
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Reflecting on the journey of a runner-up in the WNBA, a team that fell just short of the ultimate goal can be more painful than not making the playoffs at all.

In 2024, the Minnesota Lynx faced this reality after losing to the New York Liberty in a competitive five-game Finals series, coming tantalizingly close to upsetting the Liberty in the deciding game but ultimately falling short in overtime.

Despite the heartbreak, the Lynx of 2024 were a special team that deserves recognition. Their playoff run, challenging the favored Liberty after defeating the Connecticut Sun in the semifinals, showcased their transformation from a team with uncertainties to a well-coordinated unit emphasizing modern offensive strategies and strong team defense.

Evident Team Chemistry in Minnesota

Entering the 2024 season with modest expectations, the Lynx exceeded projections with a strong start and continued success, showcasing team chemistry and key statistical strengths in 3-point percentage, assist rate, and defensive efficiency.

The level of chemistry the Lynx had in 2024 greatly contributed to the team’s on-court success.

Coach Cheryl Reeve highlighted the team’s chemistry and maturity, attributing their success to smart basketball play and effective teamwork.

The Lynx excelled in sharing the ball and defensive efficiency, demonstrating trust and communication essential for their achievements.

With a roster of talented players like Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, and Napheesa Collier, the Lynx boasted a cohesive unit that excelled in key aspects of the game.

Collier’s Stellar Year

Napheesa Collier’s standout performance in 2024 showcased her growth as a star player, excelling in scoring, rebounding, and playmaking.

Collier’s exceptional season led to Defensive Player of the Year honors and a spot on the All-WNBA First Team, solidifying her status as one of the league’s top players.

Legacy of Selflessness

Despite falling short in the Finals, the Lynx left a lasting impression with their selfless play and undeniable talent, earning respect and admiration from fans.

Looking ahead, the Lynx have a strong foundation for future success and may well return to the Finals in 2025, building on the legacy of teamwork and dedication established in 2024.
