Congratulations to Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx, who was named the 2024 WNBA Coach of the Year and Basketball Executive of the Year.
In her 15th season leading the Lynx, Reeve guided the team to a historic 30-10 record, the best in franchise history and the second-best in the league for 2024. The Lynx showcased a strong offense, ranking fourth in the league, and a solid defense, ranking second. With their victory in the 2024 Commissioner’s Cup, the Lynx have reached the semifinals, aiming for their fifth WNBA championship.
This marks Reeve’s fourth Coach of the Year award (2011, 2016, 2020, 2024), setting her apart from previous three-time winners Van Chancellor (1997-99) and Mike Thibault (2006, 2008, 2013). She is also the second executive to win multiple Basketball Executive of the Year titles, first winning in 2019. Reeve joins Curt Miller as the only individuals to win both coach and executive honors in the same season, with Miller achieving this feat in 2017 with the Connecticut Sun.
Clearly, Reeve’s exceptional leadership and strategic prowess set her apart in the world of basketball.
Reeve received 62 out of 67 votes from a national media panel to secure her record fourth Coach of the Year title, outpacing Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty, who received four votes, and Christie Sides of the Indiana Fever, who received one vote.
The Basketball Executive of the Year Award is decided by executives from the 12 teams in the league, with each submitting a ballot ranking their top choices. Reeve received 10 votes, surpassing Talisa Rhea of the Seattle Storm, who received eight votes, and Darius Taylor of the Sun, who received seven votes. Executives are not allowed to vote for themselves.
