Here are some of the players who have announced their retirement.
Diana Taurasi
The three-time WNBA champion and all-time leading scorer ended her career after 20 seasons in the league, all with the Phoenix Mercury on Feb. 25.
“I thought really hard about maybe playing again, but I knew that in my heart, I was physically, mentally just full of the game of basketball,” Taurasi said. “Everything it’s given me in life. The ups and downs, the journeys. The incredible smiles, the frowns, the championships. It’s always been with a group of people that’s always cared about this game.”

Delle Donne said that her body “seemed to make this decision before my mind accepted it.”
She won a WNBA title with the Washington Mystics in 2019 but was hampered by multiple back surgeries and did not play in the league in 2024.
Danielle Robinson
Robinson retired on Jan. 1 following 12 seasons with the San Antonio Stars (2011-15), Phoenix Mercury (2017), Lynx (2018-19), Las Vegas Aces (2020), Indiana Fever (2021-22) and most recently the Atlanta Dream (2023).
Layshia Clarendon
The Los Angeles Sparks guard retired on September 20 after playing 284 games over 12 seasons with six teams.
Clarendon, a 2017 All-Star, averaged 7.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
