It was a “welcome to Atlanta” type of night for Brittney Griner on Tuesday. The 34-year-old, playing just her second game with the Atlanta Dream, made a major impact and spoiled the evening for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

Griner played 30 minutes and finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and two assists in Atlanta’s narrow 91-90 win over Indiana. She shot 8-for-13 from the field and knocked down 5-of-6 free throws. Though she fouled out late in the game, Griner was dominant during her time on the court.

The WNBA recognized her standout performance by naming her one of Tuesday night’s “Top Performers” on Instagram.

Griner joined the Dream after a legendary run with the Phoenix Mercury from 2013 to 2024. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, she helped lead Phoenix to a championship in 2014 and has been selected to the All-Star team 10 times.

She’s won two WNBA scoring titles and led the league in blocked shots eight times. On Feb. 1, the former Baylor star signed a one-year deal with Atlanta in free agency.

In the same game, rookie sensation Clark put up a game-high 27 points and dished out 11 assists but didn’t get a final shot opportunity as time expired.

Griner shared that honor with A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. Wilson was excellent in a win at Connecticut, scoring 22 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and handing out four assists. She went 10-for-12 from the free throw line in the victory.

The Aces and Dream improved to 1-0 on the season, each opening with road wins. They’ll return home for their next matchups. Atlanta will host Indiana, while Las Vegas will face Washington.
