WNBA Rookie Injured Minutes After Making Pro Debut originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

WNBA rookie Megan McConnell played in her first WNBA game on Tuesday, as the Phoenix Mercury faced the Minnesota Lynx. It was a big deal for McConnell since she had signed with the organization earlier in the day after going undrafted in the 2025 draft.

It was a big deal for McConnell and her family as she opened a new chapter in her life. Mike White of the Post-Gazette reported on what it meant for the guard and her family to secure a spot in the WNBA.

White confirmed that the recently signed player is the younger sister of Indiana Pacers backup point guard T.J. McConnell.

“Another chapter to the McConnell family story,” White posted. “It just keeps going. Last night, T.J. McConnell and the Indiana Pacers earned a spot in the NBA Finals. This morning, T.J.’s sister, Megan, signed with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.”

However, her WNBA debut was cut short. The young guard suffered a right knee injury. According to the post from Desert Wave Media, McConnell ran into Minnesota’s Alissa Pili’s thigh during a loose-ball situation. She left the court and went to the locker room.

“Not good for the Mercury. Megan McConnell went down grabbing her right knee. She ran into Minnesota’s Alissa Pili’s thigh while both were going for a loose ball,” the report from X read.

McConnell played 12:38 off the bench and had three points and three assists on 50% from deep. The Mercury had an 88-65 defeat against the Lynx.

The point guard played for the Duquesne Dukes for five years. During her stay with the team, she averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals. Her best season was during her senior year, when McConnell put up 18.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, five assists and 4.1 steals.
