WNBA Rookie Makes Blunt Admission About Former Team: “Valkyries One Kind of Sucked More” originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Shyanne Sellers didn’t hold back when reflecting on her whirlwind start to life in the WNBA.

In a recent TikTok video, the rookie guard shared an honest breakdown of her experiences with the two teams she’s been part of, the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream. And when asked which situation hurt more, she gave a blunt answer: “Valkyries one kind of sucked more.”

Sellers explained, “Both experiences were really different, but for me, I had fun at both of them. Everybody was super nice. Valkyries one kind of sucked more because it was the team I got drafted to. First one waived. So that was kind of brutal for me.”

After being selected by the Valkyries in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Sellers was released before she could settle in. The former Maryland Terrapin then landed with the Atlanta Dream, only to be waived again not long after. That roller-coaster start has understandably left her feeling a bit shaken, especially since she was never quite sure what her health status was.

“I know everyone kept saying she’s not healthy… Well, I was getting told I was healthy,” Sellers said. “Had three doctor’s appointments, got healthy, apparently. Basically, I was passing all the physicals because my knee was structurally sound.”

The back-and-forth left her in a tough spot. With both teams moving on and doubts lingering about her knee, Sellers says she now plans to play overseas, hoping for a more stable opportunity to prove herself.

The frustration is clear, but so is the determination. Sellers isn’t hiding from what happened, and she’s not sugarcoating it either. Her candid video pulls back the curtain on the business side of professional hoops, where talent, timing and circumstance don’t always align.
