The Connecticut Sun dominated the Minnesota Lynx in all three games they played this season, including a thrilling 73-70 victory in the first game of the WNBA semifinals. Alyssa Thomas led the Sun’s defense that shut down the best 3-point shooting team in the league.
Connecticut took control early in the game, weathered a strong Lynx surge in the third quarter, and ultimately secured the win with their solid defense.
The back-and-forth game saw numerous lead changes and ties, with the Sun eventually pulling ahead in the fourth quarter and holding on for the win. Marina Mabrey led the Sun’s offense with 20 points, while Thomas nearly notched a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.
Despite strong defensive efforts from the Lynx, they struggled with their 3-point shooting, making just 25% of their attempts compared to the Sun’s 40.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Napheesa Collier led Minnesota with 19 points but couldn’t hit the game-tying shot at the buzzer.
The series now shifts to Game 2 in Minnesota, where both teams will look to take the lead towards advancing to the WNBA Finals.
