The Chicago Sky made a big trade with the Connecticut Sun, sending Marina Mabrey in exchange for draft picks and veteran players Moriah Jefferson and Rachel Banham. Chicago also included a second-round pick in the deal.
Chicago Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca thanked Mabrey for her contributions and wished her success in the league. He praised her scoring ability, playmaking, competitiveness, and community involvement during her time with the Sky.
The trade happened after Mabrey’s standout performance in a game against the Las Vegas Aces, where she scored 15 points, had four assists, and three steals in a 93-85 win.
Mabrey’s growth as a playmaker was highlighted, with improved stats in points, rebounds, assists, and shooting percentage. She has shown progress in all areas of her game this season.
With Mabrey gone, the Sky’s 3-point shooting duties fall to Banham, a seasoned player known for her proficiency from beyond the arc. Banham has had multiple double-digit scoring games this season and even set a WNBA record for most 3-pointers made by a reserve player in a single game.
Jefferson, a veteran player with several years of experience in the league, joins the Sky roster alongside Banham. Jefferson is currently sidelined with an ankle injury but is expected to contribute once she returns to the court.
The Sky’s goal with this trade is to strengthen their team for the future, especially with the addition of additional draft picks in upcoming seasons.
Pagliocca expressed his excitement about adding Jefferson and Banham to the roster, believing they will bring significant value to the team. He emphasized the importance of acquiring more draft assets to improve the team’s prospects in the future.
