Last year’s NBA All-Star Weekend featured a special three-point competition between Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty. Even though Curry emerged as the winner, Ionescu outshone all other participants with her shooting skills from the NBA three-point line.
The event was so successful that there are talks of bringing it back this year with a new twist.
During an episode of FanDuel’s Run it Back show in April, ESPN’s Shams Charania mentioned, “At this point Stephen Curry versus Sabrina Ionescu is very likely for next year… I’m told with Caitlin Clark and potentially Klay Thompson to make it 2v2.”
Although there’s been no official announcement yet, Ionescu caused a stir when asked about her preferred partner for the competition.
“If I would have to choose, I’m taking Caitlin Clark on my team,” Ionescu stated.
Ionescu’s statement went viral on social media, with one clip amassing over 465,000 views.
Clark recently concluded her rookie season with the Indiana Fever, setting numerous records and earning almost unanimous Rookie of the Year honors. The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer posted exceptional statistical averages in her debut season.
Although Curry and Thompson no longer play on the same team, a potential reunion for a competition against Clark and Ionescu would be a memorable moment.
