The last time Alabama faced Maryland in the NCAA Tournament, things didn’t end well for the Crimson Tide. That was four years ago, during Alabama’s first March Madness run under coach Kristy Curry, and the Terrapins steamrolled them by 36 points in a game played in Texas. Fast forward to today, and the two teams found themselves in a much tighter battle on the grand stage once again, with an unforgettable overtime thriller that had fans—including WNBA stars—glued to their screens.
Kahleah Copper, the Chicago Sky’s WNBA champion and Finals MVP, took to Twitter during the game, unable to contain her excitement. “This game jumpinnnnn omggggggg!!!! Who gon hit the game winner? I say SARAH,” she posted, referencing Maryland’s Sarah Te-Biasu.

The game saw back-and-forth action with intense late-game moments. In the first overtime, Alabama’s Sarah Ashlee Barker forced a second extra period by knocking down clutch free throws at the buzzer to tie it at 96. However, Maryland struck first in 2OT, with Sarah Te-Biasu drilling a three-pointer to give the Terrapins a lead they never relinquished. Shyanne Sellers and Mir McLean made big plays, and despite Barker’s relentless efforts for Alabama, Maryland, Angel Reese’s former team, held on to win 111-108 in a double-overtime classic.
Copper’s reaction mirrored what many fans were feeling—pure adrenaline as both teams traded haymakers in a high-stakes battle.
As the tournament continues, one thing is certain—if this matchup was any indication, more thrilling moments are ahead.
