Coco Gauff shared insights on learning from NBA player Jimmy Butler
In a post-match interview after her victory over Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the US Open 2023, Coco Gauff discussed her friendship with NBA player Jimmy Butler. She highlighted how Butler’s mentality has helped her improve as a tennis player.
Gauff praised Butler, calling him talented, as reported by Talksport.com:
“He has that mentality really of, you know, no matter what the odds are against him, he’s gonna give it his all. I think he’s just one of those athletes [where] the mentality makes his game even better. You have people that are talented and don’t have the mentality. I think he has the talent and the mentality. It’s just taking him even further.”
Coco Gauff added:
“Between Wimbledon and the next tournament I played, nothing could have really changed that much. It was really just the mental thing. I think that’s what I learned from watching Jimmy compete over the years.”
In her first match of the season at the United Cup tournament, Coco Gauff showcased strong performances to reach the finals. She ultimately claimed the title by defeating Iga Swiatek in the finals with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
