The WNBA is making a stop at Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center this April. The Minnesota Lynx, a WNBA team based in Minneapolis, announced they will play the Nigerian Women’s National Team in a preseason game at the Kansas City stadium on April 27. This will be the first WNBA game hosted in KC since 2005. “We are thrilled to be bringing the Minnesota Lynx and the WNBA to Kansas City,” said Linda Hargrove, president of ProHoops Sports & Events, which is hosting the game. “Kansas City is an amazing sports town and has always been extremely supportive of women’s sports.” The Lynx are one of the most successful WNBA teams. The team has won four WNBA championships in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. They ended the 2025 season with a 34-10 record, the best in the league. “We are looking forward to bringing one of the WNBA’s winningest franchises to Kansas City to prepare for the 2026 season by playing in one of the most supportive cities in the country for women’s sports and specifically, women’s basketball,” said Cheryl Reeve, head coach and president of basketball operations for the Minnesota Lynx. Nigeria’s team, also known as D’Tigress, is ranked No. 8 in the International Basketball Federation World Rankings. Despite pushes for a WNBA team of its own, Kansas City is not included in the next wave of new teams. The league will expand from 13 to 15 teams in 2026, with the addition of the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo. Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia will also welcome new WNBA teams leading up to 2030. “Kansas City is a top destination for women’s sports, and we’re ready to prove that once again this spring,” said Kathy Nelson, president and CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission and Visit KC, in a news release. “We know this will be another incredible opportunity to elevate Kansas City, the league and the power of women’s athletics.” Tickets for the game go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, on the T-Mobile Center’s website.
