WNBA: Who is better right now, the Seattle Storm or Atlanta Dream?

It’s another weekend full of WNBA games, with five games on the schedule on Friday and a rematch on Saturday.

On Friday, ION will feature the Connecticut Sun’s matchup against the Indiana Fever at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by Los Angeles Sparks’ showdown with the Las Vegas Aces at 10 p.m. ET. On WNBA League Pass, you can catch the New York Liberty’s meeting with the Washington Mystics at 7:30 p.m. ET; at 10 p.m. ET, it’s the Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury and the Atlanta Dream vs. the Seattle Storm. Then, the Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings meet again on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET, which will be available on League Pass.

Here’s more on the matchups to watch as the weekend begins:

Sweet Dream or a coming Storm?

With the Atlanta Dream sitting at 4-2 and the Seattle Storm at 3-2, this game is an intriguing one.

The Dream will be hoping Brittney Griner makes her return. She’s been out with a knee injury, but is probable to play. Regardless of Griner’s availability, the Dream have a stacked roster. Allisha Gray is a demon in the backcourt, averaging 20.3 points per game, and Rhyne Howard is scoring at least 15 points, dishing out five assists and grabbing five rebounds in 2025.

The Storm won’t go away quietly into the night, however. Skylar Diggins has been explosive for Seattle, scoring 18.8 points and averaging 7.6 assists per game. It’s early, but both teams have been surprisingly good, and on Friday, one of them will continue that trend with another win.

Sun still searching for first win

The Connecticut Sun are struggling, having yet to win a game. Can they earn it in Indianapolis?

The Indiana Fever are a top team, but without Caitlin Clark, winning against the winless Sun could be a challenge. A victory by the Fever will help them tread water while Clark is out.

Top rookies challenge the champs

With Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen starting their rookie campaigns off right, the Washington Mystics are at .500 with a 3-3 record.

The New York Liberty, on the other hand, are a far more established team and have yet to lose a game. New York is a juggernaut and consists of a roster with five players averaging double figures in points, including Eastern Conference Player of the Week Natasha Cloud.

This will be a good test for Washington.

KP’s back in LV

The Las Vegas Aces might not be the team to beat in the WNBA anymore, but the Los Angeles Sparks are far from their level.

The Aces should be able to take care of the Sparks at home, but on any given night, any team can upset another, especially as the Sparks will be led by two former Aces in Kelsey Plum, playing in her first game against her former team, and Dearica Hamby.

Last year, two of the Sparks’ eight wins came against the Aces.

Can PHX slow down MVPhee?

Similar to the Storm, Dream and Mystics, the Phoenix Mercury have been a surprise. Phoenix’s new forwards have been remarkable, with Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas leading the team in points, rebounds and minutes played.

For the Mercury to keep winning, they’ll have to give the Lynx their first loss. Napheesa Collier is on a mission and is leading the WNBA in scoring with 26.8 points. The Western Conference Player of the Week is also averaging 2.4 steals per game, which is tied for the second most in the league; Collier also is fifth in blocks with 1.4 rejections per contest.

Another round of Dallas-Chicago

The Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings played each other on Thursday, with the hometeam Sky pulling out their first win, 97-92. They’ll do it again on Saturday; this time in Dallas.

In the win on Thursday, Kamillla Cardoso scored a career-high 23 points while Angel Reese dominated the boards with nine rebounds.

In the Wings’ only win of the season, which came over the Sun on Tuesday, the backcourt flourished. Paige Bueckers led the way with 21 points, and Arike Ogunbowale was right behind her with 19. The pair again produced on Thursday, as Ogunbowale exploded for 37 points and Bueckers contributed 15. However, unlike on Tuesday, Dallas received little from their bench. That needs to change on Saturday.

It’s hard to win back-to-back games against the same team, and with the Wings being at home and coming off a loss, they might have a slight edge over the Sky.
