The Minnesota Timberwolves have acquired guard Tristen Newton through waivers. As a result, the Timberwolves have let go of two-way guard Daishen Nix.
Standing at 6-5, Newton has played in five games for the Indiana Pacers this season. He has also seen action with the Indiana Mad Ants in the NBA G League, where he has averaged 17.0 points, 42.4% shooting, 41.4% from beyond the arc, 6.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.3 steals in 36.1 minutes per game over 10 games this season.
Hailing from El Paso, Texas, Newton played collegiate basketball for five years, splitting his time between Eastern Carolina University and the University of Connecticut. He won two NCAA championships at UConn and earned several accolades in his final season, including being named the 2024 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and the 2024 Associated Press BIG EAST Player of the Year.
Newton was selected in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Pacers as the 49th overall pick.
