WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Carly Martin led the way with 18 points, while Korin Baker almost had a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds as the No. 12 Whitman College women’s basketball team dominated the University of Puget Sound with a 75-48 victory in their Northwest Conference opener at the Sherwood Center on Friday night.
Four Whitman starters scored in double digits, shooting an impressive 44% from three-point range. Christiane Carlisle and Natalie Lundberg were sharp from beyond the arc, combining for seven three-pointers.
Autumn Hill led the University of Puget Sound with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Mele Sake contributed nine points and seven rebounds.
The game started off close, with neither team holding a significant lead. Whitman eventually pulled ahead after Martin’s three-pointer with 5:02 remaining. The first quarter ended with Whitman in the lead, thanks to a couple of baskets from Holly Morgan and Carlisle.
In the second quarter, Whitman outscored the Loggers by 11 points. Lundberg and Carlisle’s three-point shooting helped Whitman establish a strong lead, ending the first half with a 35-22 advantage.
Whitman continued their dominance in the second half, securing the victory over the Loggers.
Whitman will face Pacific Lutheran next as they aim to maintain their winning streak. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Sherwood Center.
