CONCORDIA, Texas – The Whitman College women’s basketball team extended its flawless start to the season with a convincing 67-55 win over Concordia (TX) at Concordia Fieldhouse on Saturday. Holly Morgan set the pace for the Blues with a team-high 16 points, ensuring Whitman’s second straight victory, both on the road

Whitman jumped out early, establishing a commanding 20-12 lead after the first frame. Morgan’s energizing buckets, including a steal and quick jumper, sparked a hot start, backed by Briana Andrade, who contributed 11 points. Impressive ball movement and opportunistic steals allowed the Blues to convert turnovers into transition points, opening up an eight-point edge at the first break.

The second quarter saw a strong Concordia push, trimming Whitman’s lead behind sharpshooting from beyond the arc and second-chance points that kept the home team close. However, Kaella Peters made her presence felt off the bench, burying four three-pointers on her way to 12 points. Whitman’s bench outscored Concordia’s, providing crucial depth and momentum as halftime approached. The Blues held on to a 36-31 advantage heading into the locker room.

Emerging from halftime, Whitman delivered a defensive masterclass in the third quarter, limiting Concordia to just five points and stretching their lead into double digits. Sumi Leavell anchored the defense with steals and timely boards, while Morgan and Avery Neal locked down the paint, combining for key rebounds and blocks. The suffocating defense ignited easy fast-break looks, giving Whitman a 49-36 cushion into the final quarter.

Concordia attempted a late surge, but Morgan added clutch baskets and was reliable at the free-throw line. Whitman sealed the game by converting turnovers into points and hitting key shots down the stretch. The Blues finished with 17 points off turnovers and 15 on the break.

The Blues now return home to host the annual Kim Evanger Raney Memorial Classic at the Sherwood Center. Whitman will play the University of St. Thomas (TX) on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Sunday.
