The Butler women’s basketball team is teaming up with the NCAA’s Readers Become Leaders Program to host an Elementary School Kids’ Day Game against Chicago State on Nov. 6. Last year’s event at Hinkle Fieldhouse drew over 2,600 fans, and the Bulldogs are looking to build on that success.
The NCAA Readers Become Leaders program promotes reading among students as a means to attain future educational goals, including pursuing higher education. The program also aims to support teachers facing a literacy crisis that impacts students of all backgrounds. Research has shown that students who are reading below grade level by the fourth grade are more likely to drop out of school later on.
The Kids’ Day Game will tip off at 11 a.m. and will be followed by another event at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Nov. 6, as the volleyball team takes on Marquette at 7 p.m.
Butler’s women’s basketball team, which made it to the WNIT last season, returns four starters. Fans can catch their first glimpse of the team in action on Saturday, Oct. 5 during Homecoming Weekend, when the team will hold an open practice from 10-11 a.m. The Bulldogs have also added an exhibition game to their schedule, facing Taylor on Nov. 1.
