LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field – McKendree University women’s soccer (9-2-1, 5-2-1 GLVC) played to a 1-1 draw on Friday evening with the 13th-ranked Maryville Saints, tarnishing the Saints’ undefeated Great Lakes Valley Conference record. The Bearcats struck first in the contest with senior midfielder Katie Spotanski blasting a goal in the 25th minute of the game, her fifth of the campaign. McKendree will remain on its home turf for Sunday’s GLVC outing with the Bearcats playing host to Missouri-St. Louis at 12:00PM.
McKendree looked to maintain the standard in the league with a result over the Saints with the Bearcats firing away first and taking an advantage over Maryville. Senior midfielder Katie Spotanski fired the leading goal in the 25th minute of the game with a dish out going to sophomore midfielder Maggie Gleckler. The Bearcats held their 1-0 lead over the Saints through the first half.
In the second half, Maryville managed to get a rebounded shot into the back of the net in the 70th minute of action. Both squads fought for supremacy in the final 20 minutes of the contest with a number of chances going in both directions. The Bearcats recorded a number of chances in the final minutes with a multitude of well-placed crosses being placed in front of the Maryville net.
Junior goalkeeper Maicy Mueller recorded 10 saves in the draw result.
