STATESBORO, Ga. – North Florida women’s soccer (3-2-2) dropped a rain-laden match to Georgia Southern (2-3-1) on Thursday evening, it was just the second defeat of the season for the Ospreys after seven matches.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at Hodges Stadium, but due to inclement weather and field conditions it was moved to Statesboro, Ga., marking the start of a three-match road stretch.

Inside the Match
First Half: The Ospreys started off on the front foot with Bella Pontieri hitting two early shots with one forcing a save from keeper Katie Oakley … Georgia Southern grew into the game from there, taking six shots in the first period, resulting in two saves from Sofia Miliancano … the Eagles took the lead just minutes before the halftime whistle, with a header from a corner kick.
Second Half: Georgia Southern extended its lead five minutes into the second period off of a free kick goal … following the goal, Sarah Barrentine entered the match for Miliancano and made two stops to keep the Eagles at bay … Georgia Southern found a third in the 71st minute to put the game away … head coach Eric Faulconer sent a season-high 31 Ospreys to the pitch.
