LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team fell to No. 1 Georgia, 4-0, on Friday in SEC action at the Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats were unable to capture a win as the Bulldogs claimed the match with dominant performances in both singles and doubles.
Georgia’s No. 13-ranked pair of Mell Reasco and Dasha Vidmanova handed Kentucky’s Ellie Eades and Lizzy Stevens a tough 6-1 loss at the one spot. On court three, Georgia’s Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry defeated Kentucky’s Zoe Hammond and Tess Bucher, 6-0. The second doubles match between Julia Zhu and Asuncion Jadue (UK) and Georgia’s No. 70-ranked Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata went unfinished, with Kentucky trailing 3-1 and the Bulldogs taking the doubles point.
At No. 5, Georgia’s No. 82 Grant defeated Kentucky’s Ellie Myers, 6-2, 6-1, to secure the Bulldogs’ second point. On court one the nation’s top singles player, Vidmanova, beat Hammond 6-1, 6-2. Reasco also made quick work of Stevens, earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the third singles spot and securing the win 4-0 for Georgia.
Several other matches were left unfinished, including Zhu’s contest with Georgia’s No. 48 Lopata (2-6, 3-2), and Bucher’s match against No. 41 Mert (4-6, 0-5). Kentucky’s Jadue was also trailing Sofia Rojas, 6-4, 0-4, when her match was abandoned.
With the win, Georgia improves to 11-1 overall, while Kentucky drops to 6-6 on the season. The Wildcats will look to regroup and bounce back in their next match, set for Sunday at South Carolina.
