CARY, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team began their individual season with a strong showing at the 2024 ITA Women’s All-American Championships. Akari Matsuno made it to the round of 32 in the prequalifiers, but lost in a competitive three-set match, 4-6, 7-6(5), 2-6. Nibi Ghosh advanced to the second round with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over her opponent from Kansas.
In doubles, the 82nd ranked team of Ghosh and Matsuno lost in a close match in the opening round to a pair from the University of Texas, 2-6, 6-3, 8-10. They then competed in the consolation bracket and were defeated by the team from Baylor.
Qualifying round saw No. 112 Bojana Pozder defeat Nikola Homolkova of Hawai’i in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, before falling in the second round to Chloe Noel, 4-6, 6-7(2).
In the doubles qualifier, Pozder teamed up with Carrie Beckman and secured a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory over a pair from UNC. However, the 45th-ranked doubles team fell to Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo of NC State in round two.
