LAS VEGAS — According to Sebastian Fundora’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, Fundora would defeat Terence Crawford if they ever faced off.
Lewkowicz shared his thoughts with World Boxing News recently, as the WBO extended the deadline for the scheduled bout between the two fighters.
Despite being relatively new to the super welterweight division, Crawford has solidified his status as a pound-for-pound great after his impressive victory over Errol Spence Jr in 2023.
Fundora, on the other hand, has been making a name for himself in the division, especially after his intense battle with Tim Tszyu earlier this year.
As reported previously by WBN, Fundora had various options for his next fight, including a rematch with Tszyu, a match against Spence in December, or the mandated fight with Crawford.
Lewkowicz expressed his preference for the Crawford fight, stating, “He is the mandatory, and we try to honor the mandatory. However, we also want a big fight for Fundora.”
While Tszyu faces off against Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF super welterweight world title in October, Lewkowicz believes Tszyu will emerge victorious, potentially setting up a rematch with Fundora.
Regardless, the focus remains on the mandated fight against Crawford, with Lewkowicz confident that Fundora will achieve his best performance yet in that match.
Updates on the fight are expected in the coming week, as the WBO granted an extension until October 10 for negotiations between Fundora and Crawford before considering purse bids.
