SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga’s Yvonne Ejim has been selected as a finalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats. Ejim, who was voted the West Coast Conference’s Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for a second straight year, won the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award last season.
Along with Ejim, the finalists are Drake’s Katie Dinnebier, Duquesne’s Megan McConnell, Harvard’s Harmoni Turner, and Laura Ziegler of Saint Joseph’s. Ejim earns her third finalist nod, becoming the first three-time finalist in the award’s six-year history. The winner will be announced on April 2.
Ejim ranks fifth nationally in field goals (244), ninth nationally in points (642) and 15th in the country in points per game (20.7). She also ranks 21st in the nation in free throws (143). She led the West Coast Conference in points, points per game, rebounds (270), rebounds per game (8.7), field goals, and double-doubles (11) during the regular season. She was also second in the conference in field goal percentage (.527) and free throws made, and eighth in the league in blocks per game (1.0). The forward was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week five times this season.
Ejim, who is a three-time First Team All-West Coast Conference selection, is one of five active players in Division I with at least 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. She ranks second in West Coast Conference history in career scoring in all games (2,301) and conference games (1,223). She also ranks fifth in WCC history (all games) with 1,085 career rebounds.
The Gonzaga standout is also on the Top 10 watch list for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year award, on the Top 20 watch list for the John R. Wooden Award and on the midseason watch lists for the Naismith and USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale awards.
Ejim looks to become the second repeat winner of the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award. Kierstan Bell of FGCU won the award in 2021 and 2022.
