Manchester United under INEOS has been transformed into a proper football club once again with significant appointments made over the summer to overhaul the club’s structure.
This includes restructuring the recruitment team with the addition of new CEO Omar Berrada from Manchester City, as well as bringing in Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth as the new technical director and Football director, respectively.
Christopher Vivell was appointed as the interim director of recruitment and has impressed the club hierarchy enough to extend his stay at the club, according to The Manchester Evening News.
He will remain in charge until at least the January transfer window, when there will be another review conducted by INEOS, and a permanent position may be offered to the former RB Salzburg head of recruitment.
Vivell Could Stay Longer
“Christopher Vivell will continue as Manchester United’s interim director of recruitment for the January transfer window after playing a crucial role in a successful summer transfer window for the club.
“Vivell has signed a contract until February and will continue in his role until then, with the possibility of a permanent appointment, as both the club and the 37-year-old German are pleased with the current working relationship.
“A final evaluation of his position will occur at the end of the January window, with sporting director Dan Ashworth still determining the operational structure of the football department, while Vivell will also assess the suitability of the role and his long-term intentions in Manchester.”
The club had a successful transfer window, bringing in five new signings and focusing on reducing the overall age of the squad while improving the team’s immediate performance.
The club also achieved record-breaking sales figures through player transfers, surpassing £100 million.
Vivell’s Impact
Vivell played a critical role in securing the acquisition of Sekou Kone, utilizing his expertise in identifying emerging talents.
He was instrumental in signing Erling Haaland for Salzburg, as well as Benjamin Sesko, Dayot Upamecano, and Karim Adeyemi, among others, while overseeing operations at the Austrian club.
It is hoped that United will be active in the January transfer window, with needs for a left-back and forward still present. The club’s slow start to the season has put manager Erik ten Hag under pressure.
A successful transfer window could significantly impact his tenure at the club. Vivell has provided the tools in the summer, now it’s up to ten Hag to deliver.
