When Caitlin Clark is in the spotlight, Stephen A. Smith will join the conversation.
Last week, Time Magazine named the Indiana Fever guard its Athlete of the Year. In the following article, Clark not only stood up for her fellow WNBA players against Christine Brennan but also acknowledged her own white privilege—a stance that faced backlash from conservative media figures like Megyn Kelly.
Despite the criticism, Clark continued to praise Black WNBA legends and received support from individuals like Dave Portnoy and Ryan Clark, even though Sheryl Swoopes and the Washington Mystics’ owner did not offer their support.
After a whirlwind of media attention, Smith is once again endorsing Clark.
“You see why I support her as Time’s Athlete of the Year?” asked Smith. “You see why I believed she should have been on Team USA? Do you understand why I called out individuals like Sheryl Swoopes who were dismissive of her achievements? She made a significant impact in the WNBA, addressing issues and pushing for positive change.”
Smith emphasized that frustrations should be directed towards the system, not towards Clark.
“She’s trying to uplift everyone,” he added. “It’s time to appreciate those like Caitlin Clark who are making a difference in the sport.”
Essentially, Smith’s message is clear: Clark’s influence is undeniable, and it’s time to embrace those who are driving progress in the game.
