Captain Virgil van Dijk emphasizes the importance of the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United, acknowledging that games at Anfield have special significance for supporters.
Liverpool, under the management of Arne Slot, are currently leading the Premier League and have the opportunity to extend their lead to eight points with a game in hand when they face United on Sunday.
On the other hand, United, led by new boss Ruben Amorim, have been struggling this season. Despite defeating Manchester City, they have lost their last three league matches and are currently in 14th place, with Amorim admitting they are in a relegation battle.

In his matchday programme notes, Van Dijk anticipates a tough challenge at Anfield and acknowledges the importance of the fixture against United.
“Every game is significant when playing for this club,” Van Dijk wrote. “But a match at Anfield against United holds a special place for supporters.
“We are aware of this rivalry and understand the special atmosphere that will be present. We aim to use it to our advantage as we strive for victory.
“It will undoubtedly be a difficult test. Despite United’s league position and struggles this season, they still possess quality players. Therefore, it is crucial that we remain focused and alert from the beginning.”
The Liverpool skipper also reflects on the team’s strong start to the season but stresses that there is still work to be done.
“We know the foundation of success. It requires quality, humility, sacrifice, work ethic, and unity. By keeping these values in mind, we can achieve our goals.
“While our start to the season has been promising, we must continue to push forward. We are not fixated on the league table or points we have not yet earned. Our focus is solely on the next challenge and maintaining consistency both on and off the field.”
