San Diego Sports Association will host the 77th annual Salute to the Champions event Monday at Hyatt Regency La Jolla, which will honor Breitbard Hall of Fame Inductees.
The three inductees this year are former San Diego Padres Adrian Gonzalez and Jake Peavy, as well as San Diego High School alum Charde Houston.
Gonzalez played for the Padres from 2006 until 2010, and was named team MVP four times in his five seasons in San Diego. Gonzalez made three consecutive All-Star appearances and played in at least 150 games in all five of his seasons with the Padres.
Peavy was drafted by the Padres in 1999 straight out of high school, and was with the Padres from 2002 until 2009. Peavy’s best season in San Diego came in 2007, when he was unanimously voted as the National League Cy Young Award winner, given to the best pitcher in the NL.
Both Gonzalez and Peavy were traded out of San Diego.
Houston, born in Oceanside, set the California state scoring record in 2004 with 3,837. Houston went on to play in the WNBA, and was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in 2008. Houston won the WNBA championship with the Lynx in 2011.
