UFC Vegas 104 is almost here. Seven days removed from UFC 313 in Enterprise, NV from T-Mobile Arena, the MMA promotion stays home for Saturday night’s card from the UFC Apex facility. Live coverage of the show begins in the late afternoon at 4 pm ET/ 1 pm PT on ESPN+ (inside the United States.)

All roads lead to Saturday! 👊

Main card action caps the evening at 7 pm ET/ 4 pm PT. Barring any 11th-hour adjustments like what we had last week, the final version of UFC Vegas 104 features a bakers’ dozen, 13 fights. Our focus on this day is the undercard for Saturday’s show, a card that features the return of Andre Lima (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) .

Unlike anything we’ve ever seen before 🤯

51 weeks ago, Lima won his UFC promotional debut by way of disqualification in the opening round of an advertised three after his opponent, Igor Severino (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) bit him in the arm. Severino was dismissed from the promotion that very evening.

As far as the main card of UFC Vegas 104 is concerned, Saturday’s schedule is highlighted by a rematch from UFC 286 at 185. Marvin Vettori (19-6-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC) squares off against Roman Dolidze (14-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) in the main event. More on that fight later on in the week.

UFC Vegas 104 Featured Prelim: Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Ryan Spann

Heavyweights top the bill on the undercard when No. 12 contender Waldo Cortes-Acosta (12-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC)  makes the walk to the famous UFC Octagon to square off against Ryan Spann (22-10 MMA, 8-5 UFC.) Cortes-Acosta enters UFC Vegas 104 having posted a record of 4-1 over his last five fights.

At the present time, he’s gotten his hand raised in victory three times in succession. Back in May of last year, he traveled to St. Louis and scored a unanimous decision victory over Robelis Despaigne (5-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC), currently competing in Karate Combat.

Cortes-Acosta has had close to 10 months away from the cage after an October fight versus Chris Barnett (23-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC) was scrubbed due to injury. How will he fare in his return?

In the other corner, Ryan Spann comes into UFC Vegas 104 on Saturday evening with a mark of 2-3 in his last five bouts, but Saturday’s featured prelim marks his debut in the UFC heavyweight division after spending the past seven years at 205 lbs.

Last October, he locked in a first-round submission (guillotine choke) against Ovince Saint Preux (27-18 MMA, 15-13 UFC) in the latter’s final fight with the promotion. Saint Preux was cut from the UFC the following Tuesday.

Spann has fought at middleweight and light heavyweight in the past, winning championships at 185. Will his first turn at 265 be a successful one? Tune in and find out.

UFC Vegas 104 Co-Featured Prelim: Su Young You vs. AJ Cunningham

Immediately beforehand, the bantamweights go to work in the UFC Vegas 104 co-featured prelim. Su Young You (14-3, 2 NC MMA, 1-0 UFC) makes his second appearance in the promotion when he takes on AJ Cunningham (11-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

Su Young You, an alumnus of last year’s Road to UFC Bantamweight Tournament, comes into this weekend with a record of 4-1 with one no-contest in his last five appearances. Last time out, he bested Baergeng Jieleyesi (19-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) during UFC Macau to take the tournament final by unanimous decision after 15 minutes of action.

This young man had an active 2024. Another victory would make it four in succession for You, who already has featherweight and bantamweight championships in Japan and his native country of South Korea to his credit. Will he take a victorious first step toward an eventual shot at the UFC Bantamweight Championship?

Across the way, AJ Cunningham is sporting a 3-2 mark in his last five fights. A veteran of the LFA and Texas’ Fury FC, he’s still reeling from a first-round knockout via front body kick on March 2 of last year versus L’udovit Klein (23-4-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC).

He was scheduled to fight on UFC Paris last September against Morgan Charriere (20-10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) before withdrawing from the event ahead of fight night. Charriere instead fought, and won, over Gabriel Miranda by second-round knockout with a left hook in 27 seconds. Can Cunningham get back in the win column this weekend?

UFC Vegas 104 Prelims: Carlos Vera vs. Josias Musasa

Also on the undercard, you’ll see a bantamweight affair matching Carlos Vera (11-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Josias Musasa (8-0 MMA, UFC promotional debut) against each other. Vera enters UFC Vegas 104 on a 4-1 clip in his last five professional contests.

Last time out, he saw a three-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of Rinya Nakamura (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) by unanimous decision on Feb. 17, 2024 in UFC 298, his promotional debut. Vera hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon for a fight in 13 months’ time.

Thus, the age-old question of ring rust is asked again here. How much ring rust does Vera have going into UFC Vegas 104 and what kind of training camp has he had?

Meanwhile, Josias Musasa enters his UFC debut having yet to lose as a professional. On Sept. 10, he landed a UFC contract by securing a split decision victory over Otari Tanzilovi (10-1 MMA) on Contender Series.

The win was Musasa’s first to be confirmed on the judges’ scorecards after having his previous nine fights end by stoppage. Three years ago, he was a few short months away from beginning his MMA career. Will his UFC debut mark his ninth consecutive win?

Final Thoughts

Which prelim or prelims are you looking forward to on UFC Vegas 104? Let us know in the comments.
