Rolando Romero Promises To ‘Flatline’ Ryan Garcia In Times Square Fight: ’40 Million Punches’ Or Rigondeaux Style?

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero says he’s going to knock out Ryan Garcia, leaving him in a “flatlined” state this Friday night at the Fatal Fury card at Times Square in New York City. Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) isn’t sure what strategy he’ll take for the fight against Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs).

Analyzing Romero’s Strategy

He says he might throw “40 million punches” or box him like two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux. Rolly’s father is Cuban. That approach might work for Rolando because that’s what he utilized to beat up Ryan during their sparring session in the past.

If Rolly boxes Garcia, he’s going to play into his hands because he does well against fighters who try to box him. We saw what he did to Devin Haney last April when he tried a tactical approach to fighting him.

Garcia vs. Romero headlines Friday’s card, live on DAZN pay-per-view. The PPV price of the May 2nd event is $59.99. However, fans can get a discount if they purchase the Knockout Weekend Bundle, which includes the May 3rd Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull for $90.

It would be a big upset if Rolly defeats Kingry, because a lot of people aren’t giving him much of a chance. However, Romero’s punching power gives him a good shot at winning if he can target Ryan’s body. That’s his weakness, as Gervonta Davis exposed.

“They can rematch. I don’t care. They can rematch after I knock him out. I don’t really care,” said Rolly Romero to Fight Hub TV, talking about Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney can still fight their rematch in October after he defeats Kingry this Friday in New York City. “I just don’t care,” said Rolly when told by the interviewer that he’d like to see him fight Haney after Ryan.

Garcia and Haney will probably rematch, even if Ryan loses to Rolando in their headliner. They’re both supposed to win their fights on the Fatal Fury card on Friday for the Garcia-Haney rematch to happen in October. Turki Alalshikh may find it too hard to resist matching that fight because it would still be bigger than anything else at 147 or 140.

Rolly’s “Flatline” Promise

“Ryan Garcia flatlined on the canvas. That’s about it,” said Romero on how he sees his fight with Ryan playing out. “It’s just sleeping. Goodnight. Pay attention to every interaction me, and Ryan have had, especially over the last few years. It’ll change your whole perspective on everything.”

Rolly is keeping his secrets about what his interactions have been with Garcia. It’s understandable because he’s not going to tip him off ahead of time.

“It depends on how I feel that day. Maybe I might come at him nonstop and throw 40 million punches. Maybe I’ll box like Rigondeaux or something,” said Romero when asked how he’ll fight Garcia. “I’m not going to say mental edge. All I know is I whipped his a** [in sparring]. It’s sparring. It’s irrelevant.

“I’m not dehydrated. I’m not killing myself to make a weight class I shouldn’t be in,” said Rolly about what the difference is between fighting Ryan at 147 and his bout against Gervonta Davis at 135. “That right there is miles above anything else.”
