The long-running fallout from the Terry Rozier trade between the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat has officially been settled.

Charlotte will send a second-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft to Miami to close the dispute surrounding the January 2024 deal that originally sent Rozier to the Heat, according to reporting from USA TODAY Sports.

Two individuals with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed the resolution, though they spoke anonymously because they were not permitted to discuss the matter publicly.

The pick Charlotte is sending will be the most favorable of its available second-round selections that originally belonged to either the Golden State Warriors or the Denver Nuggets.

The decision was communicated across the league through an official memo distributed to all NBA general managers.

At the center of the dispute was information tied to irregular betting activity connected to Rozier’s performance during a March 23, 2023 game when he was still a member of the Hornets. Neither the NBA nor Charlotte had informed Miami about the activity before the trade was finalized.

Integrity monitoring services first raised concerns about suspicious betting tied to that game in March 2023, but the situation did not become widely known until January 2025, when both the betting concerns and a federal investigation into Rozier became public.

League rules outline strict procedures for how trades must be finalized. All teams involved in a deal must first send the agreed terms to the league office before participating in what is known as a trade conference call with league officials and lawyers, according to the NBA constitution and by-laws.

During that process, teams are required to confirm all details of the transaction and disclose relevant information.

One section of the league’s constitution states that teams are prohibited from making “any other material misrepresentation or fail to disclose any other material information during the Trade Call.”

Once all terms are confirmed, each franchise must certify that no additional conditions exist beyond what was discussed.
