For generations, Barbie has been synonymous with going beyond limits. And with her recent move, Serena Williams is set to tie her name with the franchise.
Her 23 Grand Slam titles are the most won by anyone in the Open Era. But Williams’ portfolio expands beyond tennis, reaching business and entrepreneurship, which makes her a global icon. Now, Mattel has a wonderful way to celebrate this venture.
At the first-ever Barbie Dream Fest, taking place from March 27–29, Serena Williams will receive the inaugural Barbie Dream Fest Icon Award in Fort Lauderdale, FL. While an impressive feat in itself, Mattel highlighted what makes Williams the perfect recipient.
“This prestigious recognition celebrates individuals who break barriers, redefine expectations, and inspire others to dream without limits,” Mattel announced. “Icon Award recipients represent the heart of Dream Fest: empowerment, authenticity, and the fearless courage to lead the way.”
Other than Williams, Barbie Dream Fest’s Instagram announcement confirmed that WNBA star Angel Reese will also take the stage as a “featured speaker and special guest.” After being named the centre of this star-studded panel, Williams stated what it meant to her.
Serena Williams Opened Up About Her Feat
Mattel distinctly honoured Williams’ investment firm, ‘Serena Ventures’, which has backed more than 60 companies. Designing the doll with a sharp black and white blazer and signature curls, it’s a nod to her ability to dream beyond limits. And Williams’ words echoed exactly what the design stands for.
“Barbie has always stood for dreaming without limits,” she said. “She shows girls everywhere they can be athletes, leaders, creators, anything they imagine.”
“I’m so excited to be part of the first-ever Barbie Dream Fest”, the icon added further. “Where it’s all about celebrating the legacy of Barbie and inspiring the next generation to believe they can be anything.”
As the program will feature “an extraordinary lineup of inspiring role models spanning sports, science, fashion, and storytelling”, it’ll be exciting to see Williams, Reese, and other stars interact.
