The GIST: Athletes Unlimited is gearing up for its third basketball season, providing women with a platform to showcase their skills and compete for individual glory while the WNBA is on break.
Here’s how it works: Forty players will participate in AU’s four-week season, earning points based on their individual and team performance. Each week, four new teams are drafted, with the top four players in the weekly leaderboard becoming captains for the following week’s competition. The player with the most cumulative points at the end of the season is crowned the individual champion.
AU Basketball not only helps players prepare for the WNBA season but also offers women the opportunity to play professionally in North America year-round, rather than having to go overseas to compete. A great step forward for the sport.
Keep an eye out for notable WNBA athletes like Natasha Cloud of the Phoenix Mercury, Allisha Gray and Haley Jones of the Atlanta Dream, and the hilarious duo of Sydney Colson and Theresa Plaisance from the Las Vegas Aces.
To catch all the action, fans in the U.S. and Canada can watch the majority of the AU season, including the upcoming opener, for free on the WNBA app. Time to change the game.
