The 2024/25 Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship season has kicked off with Falkirk Women securing a 4-0 victory in their local derby against Stenhousemuir.
The match saw a high-tempo start to the newly-sponsored third and fourth tier of women’s football in Scotland. Stenhousemuir goalkeeper Rosie Alexander made some fine saves to deny Falkirk, but the Bairns capitalized on rebounds. Natalie Brown, a former Edinburgh Caledonia striker, opened the scoring with a goal at the back post after 12 minutes. Olivia Murphy added a second goal after a triple save from Alexander.
Fiona Walker scored a third goal from a corner in the second half, while Eva Rule secured a fourth goal with ten minutes remaining. Falkirk’s defense kept Stenhousemuir at bay, despite their efforts to move the ball well.
Other matches in the league saw Dryburgh Athletic defeating Westdkye 7-3 and East Fife winning 2-0 against Stirling University. Inverness Caledonian Thistle secured a 1-0 victory over Hutchison Vale, and Forfar Farmington came from behind to beat Renfrew Ladies 3-2.
Glasgow Girls and Women clinched a 3-2 victory over Morton, while St Mirren won 6-4 against Armadale Thistle in the Barclays Scottish Women’s League One.
The SWFL Cup also began with holders Glenrothes Strollers winning 7-0 against Danderhall Miners and Dunfermline Athletic defeating Bayside 7-0 in the Dunfermline derby.
St Anthony’s Ladies secured a 2-2 draw with Drumchapel United, and Bishopton won in a thrilling 3-2 match against Harmony Row.
In the ScottishPower Highlands and Islands League, Ross County emerged as 6-0 winners against Sutherland Women.
