Big wins for leading sides in the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship

Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship leaders Falkirk and Renfrew knocked up big wins to stay in front in Scotland’s third tier of women’s football.

The Bairns blew away Ayr United 7-1 at home including a brace each from Olivia Murphy and Nina Hegarty and goals from Anna Murray, Vhairi Munro and Mhari Smith, while Renfrew ran out 6-0 winners in their Renfrewshire derby with Morton thanks to goals from Caitlin McKee, Paige Henry, Kiera Heppenstall, Emma Baird and and Morgan Graham.

Forfar Farmington remain fourth thanks to a 5-2 home win against Armadale Thistle and Stenhousemuir move up to fifth after beating Inverness Caley Thistle 3-1 in the Highlands.

Dryburgh Athletic defender Rachel Robbie rescued a point for the Dundee side after she levelled from the spot against Bonnyrigg Rose after teammate Emily Sharples had been ruled to have been fouled inside the box. The league’s top scorer Khya McGurk had opened the scoring for Rose.

In Barclays Scottish Women’s League One, Dunipace remain top after taking all three points from the capital in a 3-1 victory over Edinburgh Caledonia. Goals from top scorer Claire Hutton and Kirsty Macleod had the Denny side in front before a screamer from Lois Hay for the hosts set up a nervy final quarter of an hour. But with three minutes remaining Hutton added her second and 23rd league goal of the season to ensure her side remain on top of the pile.

St Mirren moved into second thanks to an impressive 4-0 win away to Inverurie Loco Works, with Queen of the South just behind on goal difference after coming from behind to beat Dunfermline Athletic 2-1 at Palmerston. Both sides have a game in hand on Dunipace but remain three points behind.

Elgin City drop to fourth after Cambusdoon took three points from Moray in an impressive 5-3 away win which lifts them into fifth.

Glenrothes Strollers and Airdrie CC played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in Kirkcaldy.

In the rearranged last sixteen ties from last week’s postponed games in the ScottishPower Regional League Cup, Plate holders Cumbernauld United were eliminated by Edinburgh South in a 3-1 victory for the visitors, and Arbroath knocked out Linlithgow Rose with a 1-0 victory.
