Dmitry Bivol accepts the blame for his loss in his previous fight against Artur Beterbiev last October. The former WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) is not looking to make excuses for why Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) beat him by a 12-round majority decision in a fight he could have won.
No Excuses
Bivol wants to make the corrections in his rematch with undisputed 175-lb champion Beterbiev this Saturday, February 22nd, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, live on DAZN PPV. He knows he didn’t do enough and wants to take more risks. He feels that he needs to make small improvements in every part of his game, which are doable.
Beterbiev-Bivol is headlining on Saturday night, live on DAZN PPV on a loaded card. The fights that many fans are interested in are as follows:
– Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Israil Madrimov – my personal #1 choice– Shakur Stevenson vs. Floyd Schofield – upset potential– Zhilei Zhang vs. Agit Kabayel– Daniel Dubois vs. Joseph Parker– Carlos Adames vs. Hamzah Sheeraz
“It was my fault. I didn’t do many things I could do. He could be better,” said Dmitry Bivol to Queensberry when asked whose fault it was for his loss to Artur Beterbiev last October. “I have everything to win this fight, but I didn’t use it.
“It’s easy to blame somebody, and then you can give yourself excuses. You don’t need to work to be a better version. You just need to work on somebody else. It’s not right. It will not make you better.”
It looked like Bivol ran out of gas after the sixth and didn’t have the energy to continue to fight like he’d done in the first five rounds Although fans believe Bivol only needed to fight hard in the final two rounds, he needed to do more than that. He was exhausted after six rounds.
“When I finish my career, I will maybe watch this fight, counting rounds and punches,” said Bivol about his first fight against Beterbiev. “Now, I don’t want it. It won’t help me as a fighter. I have to work harder, faster and maybe take some more risks. Everything be better.
“Boxing is not a field where you should use your emotions. It’s important for me to prove that I can win this fight that I could be better. We don’t respect trash-talking. It doesn’t make you better. It makes you less,” said Bivol about why he chooses not to trash talk.
