Devin Haney looks to become a three-weight world champion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The man who stands in his way is hard-hitting Brian Norman Jr, who is making the third defence of his WBO welterweight strap.

Haney makes his debut at 147lbs, coming off the back of a clear points win against Jose Ramirez at a catchweight of 144 back in May. Though there was no debate on his victory, his safety-first performance led to questions of his confidence after suffering three knockdowns at the hands of Ryan Garcia in 2024.

Norman Jr scored what may be the knockout of the year against Jin Sasaki in June, and though should be by far the toughest test of his campaign, is confident of ending this one inside the distance, too.

Devin Haney wins via unanimous decision, landing a knockdown shot in the second on the way to scores of 114-113, 117-110 and 116-111. Given the narrative around his confidence and the arrival at a new weight class, Haney’s performance was one of the most significant of his career so far. He looked at home at welterweight, and was a step ahead of Norman Jr throughout. The knockdown was a sweet moment for a man who is often accused of having no power, but timing is everything and he has that in spades. Ultimately, a world class jab paved the way to becoming a three-weight world champion.
