WASHINGTON – Butler defeated the Georgetown Hoyas 66-58 on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. Anna Wypych led Butler with 13 points in the contest. With the win, Butler improves to 10-18 on the year and 4-14 in BIG EAST action while Georgetown slides to 13-14 overall and 6-12 in league action.

BULLDOG HIGHLIGHTS

Wypych led a quartet of Bulldogs in double figures, pouring in 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting. Kennedy Langham (11), Lily Zeinstra (10) and Caroline Dotsey (10) rounded out the Bulldogs in double figures.
Saniya Jackson led BU on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds.
Nevaeh Jackson paced the offense, dishing out four assists in the contest.
Butler shot 23-for-55 (41.8%) from the field and shot 7-for-19 (36.8%) from behind the arc.
Butler forced 14 GU turnovers and turned them into 19 points.

 
GEORGETOWN HIGHLIGHTS

Brianna Scott led the Hoyas with 15 points on 4-for-10 shooting from the floor. Scott recorded a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her stat line.
Destiny Agubata paced the offense with two assists.
Georgetown shot 20-for-56 (36.7%) from the floor and shot 1-for-16 (6.3%) from beyond the arc.
Georgetown outrebounded Butler 35-33.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

Both sides traded buckets to open the game as GU held the narrow 9-8 lead at the halfway mark of the first quarter. Georgetown closed the quarter on an 8-3 run as the Hoyas took the 17-11 lead into the second quarter.
Butler started the second frame on a 5-1 run, cutting the GU lead to three. Both sides continued to go back and forth over the final minutes of the quarter. The Dawgs were able to cut the deficit to one (27-26) heading into the break.
The Dawgs opened the third quarter on a 5-2 run, as BU took its first lead (33-31) since the 6:04 mark of the first quarter. BU strung together an 8-0 run fueled by two buckets from Zeinstra, forcing GU to take a timeout with Butler up 44-38. BU took the 46-42 lead into the final quarter of action.
The fourth started with both sides trading buckets as the Butler lead stood at five (49-44) early in the quarter. Butler continued to battle, putting the Hoyas on their back foot as BU held a seven-point lead (60-53) with just over two minutes left in the game. Butler was able to fend off the Hoyas’ comeback efforts, securing the 66-58 victory at the final whistle.

 
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 as BU travels to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons. Tip-off at Wintrust Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
