In a matchup brimming with finishing prowess and national pride, Canadian bantamweight sensation Melissa Croden is poised to step into the UFC Octagon for the first time this Saturday at UFC Fight Night: De Ridder vs. Allen, held at the iconic Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The 34-year-old powerhouse from Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, will face off against Brazil’s Tainara “Thai Panther” Lisboa in a preliminary card opener that promises fireworks from the opening bell.

Melissa “Scare” Croden, entering with a razor-sharp 6-2 professional record, has built her reputation as a relentless finisher on the regional circuit, particularly in the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA). All six of her victories have come inside the distance—five thunderous knockouts and one slick submission—showcasing a striking arsenal that has left opponents scrambling for survival. She’s riding a two-fight winning streak, including a dominant second-round TKO over American Ashley Deen in October 2024, but her path to the UFC hasn’t been without hurdles. A 12-month layoff preceded her latest triumph, testing her resolve amid a career marked by sporadic activity.

What makes this debut especially electric is the home-soil advantage. Though Croden hails from the rugged foothills of Alberta, Vancouver’s rabid MMA fanbase—long starved for a major UFC event since 2019—will treat her like royalty.

“It’s a dream come true to fight in Canada, especially in front of fans who get what this grind is all about,” Croden said in a pre-fight interview with MMA Junkie. “I’ve trained my whole life for this moment. Tainara’s tough, but I’m bringing that Canadian fire.”

Standing across the cage is Lisboa, a 7-3 veteran with early UFC promise now shadowed by recent adversity. The 30-year-old Brazilian started her Octagon tenure strong, notching back-to-back wins in 2023, but hit a snag with a first-round submission loss to Luana Santos in May 2025 after an extended hiatus. Known for her grappling wizardry and explosive takedowns, Lisboa will look to drag Croden into uncharted waters on the mat, where the Canadian’s submission defense remains largely untested at the elite level. Analysts predict a high-stakes clash of styles: Croden’s heavy hands versus Lisboa’s ground control, with the edge leaning toward the debuting Canadian’s knockout power in a potential upset.

Croden’s journey to this point is a testament to perseverance. A former LFA standout, she notched a marquee win over Bellator and TUF alum Katharina Lehner in October 2023, a performance that turned heads in scouting circles. That victory, a gritty decision after a war of attrition, highlighted her cardio and chin—qualities that will be crucial against Lisboa’s pressure. “Melissa’s the real deal,” said her coach, Dean Lister, in a recent podcast appearance. “She’s got that killer instinct, and Vancouver’s energy is going to ignite her.”

The UFC Vancouver card itself is a stacked affair, headlined by a middleweight showdown between surging Dutch star Reinier de Ridder and American grappler Brendan Allen, following the withdrawal of Anthony Hernandez. Canadian representation runs deep, with hometown heroes like Jasmine Jasudavicius, Mike Malott, Aiemann Zahabi, Kyle Nelson, Charles Jourdain, and Kyle Prepolec all vying for glory. It’s a night primed to rekindle the flames of MMA mania in the Great White North.

As fight week buzz builds, Melissa Croden remains laser-focused. Weigh-ins on Friday will set the stage for what could be a star-making performance.

Will “Scare” live up to her moniker and stun the division with a highlight-reel finish? Or will Lisboa’s experience prove too much for the newcomer?

One thing’s certain: Melissa Croden’s UFC debut is set to be the talk of the town—and perhaps the entire bantamweight landscape—by the time the final horn sounds on October 18.

Tune in to UFC Fight Pass for prelims starting at 5 p.m. PT, with the main card on ESPN+ at 8 p.m. PT.

For Melissa Croden, this isn’t just a fight; it’s the launchpad to legacy.
