Chelsea won away to FC Twente in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage but Celtic were beaten at Real Madrid.
Group A – Galatasaray 1-6 Roma, Wolfsburg 0-2 LyonGroup B – FC Twente 1-3 Chelsea, Real Madrid 4-0 Celtic
There was barely six minutes played when Aggie Beever-Jones fired Chelsea ahead with a deflected effort from outside the box.
Maika Hamano chipped Olivia Clark from 30 yards to help put the Blues in control.
Mayra Ramirez came off the bench and swiftly won a penalty, which Guro Reiten clinically buried.
Twente got one back with a quarter of the match remaining, Nikee van Dyk finishing across Zecira Musovic after Ella Peddemors’ ball over the top.
Caroline Weir fired Real Madrid into a seventh-minute lead from 25 yards, Amy Gallagher denying the dominant hosts a second in the first half when deflecting a shot onto the post.
Linda Caicedo also hit the Celtic woodwork after the break and although Celtic began to threaten, Melanie Leupolz made it 2-0 with a diving header.
Caroline Møller lobbed Kelsey Daugherty for the third and then Caicedo won and converted a penalty.
Lyon led after eight minutes at Wolfsburg, Wendie Renard with the header from Melchie Dumornay’s cross.
Their second came at the the stage after the interval, as Lindsey Horan converted a penalty following a foul on Dumornay.
Hawa Cissoko headed Roma into an early lead at Galatasaray, Valentina Giacinti nodding in the second for a 2-0 interval advantage. Emilie Haavi added a third and after a couple of assists Manuela Giugliano got on the scoresheet herself.
Andrea Stasková pulled one back, only for Marta Pandini and Alice Corelli to take the score to 6-1.
